How to use it

Pick your unit (kilometres or miles), enter the distance you ran, and type the time it took. The calculator instantly returns your pace in both units and your average speed. The preset buttons fill in the standard race distances so you can check goal paces in one tap.

How pace is calculated

Pace is simply total time divided by distance. If you ran 10 km in 50 minutes, your pace is 50 ÷ 10 = 5:00 per kilometre. To convert between units, one mile equals 1.609 kilometres, so a pace per mile is the pace per kilometre multiplied by 1.609. Average speed is the distance divided by the time expressed in hours.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good running pace?

It depends entirely on your fitness, the distance and the terrain. Rather than comparing to others, use your own recent races to set realistic goal paces, then use the VDOT calculator to derive training paces from them.

How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?

Multiply your pace per kilometre by 1.609. A 5:00/km pace is about 8:03 per mile.

Does this work for treadmill running?

Treadmill effort differs from the road because there is no air resistance. Use the treadmill-to-road converter to get your equivalent outdoor pace.
